Aastha in the prison of spring is a story of Amar and Manasi coming to terms with, and getting over the debris and the decay ofa culture of consumption. Simply put, Aastha is a back-to-the-basic story of a husband and wife put to the ultimate test. Their survival is a reaffirmation of faith. Of conjugal love in the world that celebrates merely the instant.
It begins at a show shop when a pair of shoes that tempts Manasi is priced a little over what she can afford. A lady, as a friendly gesture offers to pay the rest of the money. With her Manasi sails on a journey of seductions - the glitz and sleaze of an urban life. Somewhere along the way Manasi is led to a guilt ridden awareness of her sexuality, an aspect that lay unrevealed.
Amar her husband, is completely unaware of the travails of his wife. A participant in her changing sexual discernment, Amar leads a life far removed from the one that Manasi is coerced into and entrapped by. For Amar the quintessence of existence is an endeavor; an understanding that need is not manufactured but created.
Balancing parallel lives, Manasi submerges into the abyss of guilt until she finds herself exposed by Amita, one of Amar's students. Together they plan a confession by innuendo. This, Manasi concludes, is the only chance she has to pick up the threads of her shredded life.
